Implementing SAP S/4HANA in the Cloud: key points of the journey
The new SAP S/4HANA system in the cloud went live in January 2023 simultaneously on 9 ORI Martin Group companies, including 4 with production plants, encompassing all business processes:
- sales and distribution
- production
- quality management
- purchasing and warehousing
- finance and control
A product configurator with more than 1,000 features has been activated and integrated with production planning, sales and management control processes.
ORI Martin’s production process involves, for the same sales order, processing steps on various plants belonging to different companies in the group; this has led to the development of sophisticated customizations for the management of intercompany work account processes, both from a logistical point of view and for the calculation of product cost.
In parallel with the process implementation project on the ERP system, the group’s Business Intelligence platform was completely overhauled, integrating data from S/4HANA and production facilities through SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Business Objects.
Strategies and innovative elements to optimize operations
The project meets a number of ORI Martin’s strategic needs:
- Initiate a digital transformation process based on cutting-edge tools that are scalable over time;
- Integrate the business processes of different group companies;
- Capitalize on company know-how through the implementation of a product configurator;
- Enable campaign and finite-capacity production planning processes based on product characteristics;
- Obtain a detailed product cost through the entire production chain (cross-company);
- Manage semi-finished and finished product warehouses with individual package detail and location;
- Review the enterprise business intelligence platform.
The main innovative elements of the project are:
- activation ofS/4HANA’s advanced Planning features on a metal industry company with a very complex product configurator (more than 1,000 configuration features);
- Development of custom functionality for managing the intercompany work account process with configurable materials, integrated with standard product costing functionality;
- Physical management of individual package location within stalls and stacks;
- Exclusive use of theFiori interface for all users;
- BI platform based on SAC Planning, integrated with S/4HANA on SAP Private Cloud.
Our team contributed significantly to theoptimization of ORI Martin’s business processes, once again demonstrating our commitment to excellence and innovation in the area of SAP solutions.
