Made in Steel 2013: in search of business efficiency

The first Milan edition of Made in Steel 2013 covered the industry’s pivotal issues, from the need for greater efficiency to the advancement of competition. Twenty-five conferences and panel discussions took place at Fiera Milano City, resulting in a gathering expected by operators. They discussed how scenarios are changing, what will be the strategic choices for future resilience and new technologies to make competitive what remains one of the key sectors of European industrial policy. The sector in Italy works at “60 percent of production capacity,” said Antonio Gozzi, president of Federacciai. The future of steel can only revolve around “innovation, sustainability and cooperation,” reiterated the association’s number one in no uncertain terms.

And it was precisely in the area of technology implementation that Regesta, which was present with a booth, was able to meet with many insiders from leading companies on the international scene. Production performance must cope with the giant Asian market that is advancing menacingly, with great flexibility and rationalization of supply. Internationalization is the key that the Italian steel industry will have to use to remain competitive in the global arena. It was no coincidence that buyers from halfway around the world, from Algeria to India, were addressed by delegates from the Italian Chambers of Commerce of Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, India, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates; in the meetings, their respective systems-countries that will increasingly be the scenarios of tomorrow-were presented.

The role of IT tools that Regesta provides through SAP software becomes strategic and indispensable to counter the advance of Asian multinationals. Elia Zamboni, deputy editor of Il Sole 24 Ore, also highlighted the importance of timely management of all production and sales processes: “The economy is less digital than it is portrayed and companies are sensitive to production technology, less so to information and communication technology.”
