In the mature era of Industry 4.0, manufacturing is experiencing yet another evolution or rather revolution, this time driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and collaborative robotics<\/strong>, through the use of intelligent machines. These advanced technologies have strong elements of convergence, and their application in manufacturing outlines a number of benefits in the medium and long term. <\/p>\n

The entry of intelligent machines into the manufacturing sector has brought with it a number of significant changes, evidenced by data and studies that highlight their tangible benefits. According to a report by PwC (*), the implementation of AI in the manufacturing sector could increase global GDP by $15.7 trillion by 2030, with a 14 percent increase in productivity. Moreover, already a study by McKinsey Global Institute (**) suggested a few years ago that automation could lift productivity in the manufacturing sector by 0.8 percent per year, a rate significantly higher than the average annual increase of 0.4%-0.6% from 1990 to 2015, a period that we know was particularly attractive from a productivity perspective. Thus, everything suggests that the benefits could be even greater in the near future. These data underscore the positive impact that smart machines have on the industry<\/strong>, not only in terms of production efficiency but also in terms of contributing to overall economic growth. <\/p>\n<\/div>

The integration of AI in the manufacturing sector<\/h2>\n

The advent of AI has opened new avenues in manufacturing, with a growing impact on the digitization of data and processes, not only in administrative, managerial or otherwise organizational work.<\/strong> The very nature of the manufacturing process, inherently physical and material, now merges with artificial intelligence in a combination that enhances the capabilities of both machines and human operators. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

This synergy, which is essential in the modern and increasingly competitive industrial landscape, is the basis on which the future of manufacturing is being built<\/strong>, in the principle that today some are already calling collaborative manufacturing. Compared to other sectors where, as we know, the use of tools based on artificial intelligence is fairly recent, in reality intelligent machines are an undoubtedly new but definitely more established phenomenon: principles such as Machine Learning and Deep Learning have in fact already been widely practiced in the manufacturing sector for some years. <\/p>\n

Cobotics: the new era in Robotics<\/h3>\n

Collaborative robotics, or Cobotics, is an emerging field that marks a significant evolution in traditional robotics. Unlike the use of traditional autonomous robots, Cobots are designed to work side by side with humans<\/strong>, sharing spaces and tasks safely and cooperatively. These robots are equipped with advanced sensors, AI algorithms, and machine learning tools to interact intelligently and safely with human operators, finding application in various fields such as manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare. In addition, Cobots often have the advantage that they can be adopted with lower infrastructure investments<\/strong> than those required with traditional type automation based, for example, on advanced mechanical arms that require specific space and safety criteria to be used. <\/p>\n

What, then, are the advantages of collaborative robotics? We report here some of the main ones, recalling that the underlying principle of this strategy is, precisely, synergistic work between man and machine, allowing for greater exploitation of the strengths of both: <\/p>\n
